With the expansion of LHLM to Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Honduras, LHLM embarks on new horizons. In order to properly explain our decision to divert our aid to neighboring countries, we must describe why we will temporarily cease providing aid to Haiti. As the world's first independent black republic, Haiti succeeded France on January 1, 1804. Prior to its succession, Haiti was once called The Jewel of the Antilles, one of America's wealthiest colonies. The 1750s were a time when Haiti was the largest economic powerhouse in the world, providing more than half of France's total goods. Haiti was France's biggest exporter of sugar, coffee, cocoa, tobacco, cotton, and indigo.

Fast-forward to today, "Haiti is now the Western Hemisphere's poorest country, with more than half its population living below the World Bank's poverty line" (CFR 2022). LHLM's foundational mission focused on providing Haiti with the funds to help children, families, and communities overcome poverty. Despite opposing factors like foreign intervention, political instability, natural disasters, and epidemics. This gave us more of a reason to assist the people of Haiti. But unfortunately, even with our and many others' assistance Haiti is undergoing an internal conflict. In addition, as each day passes, the crime rate is increasing, making it extremely difficult to deliver aid to trustworthy Haitian organizations. This will have LHLM reassess how we conduct our services in Haiti in due time. However, despite our temporary break servicing Haiti, LHLM is excited to expand its services, starting with Ecuador and Honduras.

Ecuador and Honduras are beautiful countries deeply connected with their culture and history. However, both countries share similar struggles regarding high crime rates and inadequate infrastructure. LHLM's role is to apply a new strategy of allocating sponsorships and supplies to support the centers within Ecuador and Honduras. We aim to refrain from sending direct funds to existing centers within said countries until proven otherwise. This new venture is an exciting trial for LHLM to take on to impact more lives. Nothing excites us more than to instill a virtuous passion for charity in hopes of igniting the sparks of hope within one another. Our purpose is to spread love so it can spread tenfold.
